A flange bolt is a prevalent fastening component extensively utilized in highway and railway bridges, industrial and civil constructions, cranes, excavators, and other heavy machinery. In this article, the China Standard Parts Network will briefly overview the fundamental classification of flange bolts.
Basic classification of flange bolts:
- A hexagon head screw bolt with a hole features an open pinhole on the bolt's screw, allowing a metal wire to pass through it. This design facilitates easier fastening. The bolt employs mechanical locking, ensuring reliable security against loosening.
- A hexagon reamed bolt with a reamed hole enhances interconnected parts' fixation, ensuring mutual positioning and resilience against shear and extrusion forces in the transverse direction.
- The cross-recessed hexagon head bolt offers easy installation and tightening, and it is primarily suitable for applications in the light industry and instruments with low loads. Conversely, the square head bolt features a larger head size and stress surface, facilitating wrench gripping. Its tightening process is convenient, and it can also rely on other parts to prevent rotation.
- The countersunk bolt with a square neck featuring anti-rotation functionality is commonly employed when the connecting parts' surface must be flat or smooth.
- A T-slot bolt is utilized when the bolt can only be connected from the side of the joined parts. Insert the bolt into the T-slot and rotate it by 90 degrees to prevent it from dislodging. This bolt type can also be applied in situations necessitating a compact structure.
- Anchor bolts are designed to secure the machinery and equipment bases in embedded concrete foundations. They are commonly employed in areas and fixtures requiring frequent disassembly and connection.
- Rigid grid bolts, high-strength bolts used for ball joints, possess exceptional strength and are primarily utilized in highway and railway bridges, industrial and civil constructions, towers, and cranes.
Ordinary materials of flange bolts:
- Hexagon flange bolts made from high carbon steel with a carbon content greater than 0.45% are not currently utilized in the market.
- Hexagon head bolts made from medium carbon steel with a carbon content of 0.25% are commonly referred to as 35 and 45 steel in China and 1035, CH38F, 1039, 40ACr, etc., in foreign countries. They are primarily used for Grade 8 nuts, grade 8.8 bolts, and grade 8.8 hexagonal products.
- Low-carbon steel with a carbon content of ≤ 0.25%, commonly known as A3 steel in China, is referred to as 1008101510181022 in foreign countries. It is primarily utilized for grade 4.8 bolts, grade 4 nuts, small screws, and other products that do not require high hardness. (Note: 1022 materials are primarily used for drilling tail nails.)
- Alloy steel refers to adding alloy elements to conventional carbon steel to enhance its specific properties. Examples include 35, 40 chromium-molybdenum, SCM435, and 10B38. The hexagon flange bolt primarily utilizes SCM435 chromium-molybdenum alloy steel, with main components including C, Si, Mn, P, S, Cr, and Mo.
