How Are Stainless Steel Flanges Utilized in Industry? - Stainless Steel Flanges: 304 and 316 Varieties from China
Stainless steel flanges are often used to install various pipelines, especially long-distance, large-scale metal pipelines that have been used for a long time. The term "stainless steel flanges" refers to using flanges as two-stage interfaces at the pipe joints instead of directly connecting the pipelines. Compared to the butt joint of straight pipes, stainless steel flanges are safer, more reliable, and provide firmer connections. Stainless steel flanges are among the most common disc parts in pipeline engineering, yet most people are unfamiliar with them. So, what role do stainless steel flanges play in industrial applications?
Stainless steel flanges are used in pairs, and valves are equipped with stainless steel flanges. In pipeline engineering, stainless steel flanges are primarily used for pipeline connections. To connect pipes, stainless steel flange pipes can be installed. Stainless steel flanges are suitable for low-pressure pipes, and when the pressure exceeds 4 kg, they can be welded. Gaskets can be added between two stainless steel flange plates and secured with bolts. Stainless steel flanges vary in thickness and bolt specifications depending on the pressure requirements.
When water pumps and valves are connected to pipelines, their components are made into corresponding stainless steel flange shapes, known as stainless steel flange connections. All the closed joints bolted at the periphery of two planes are generally called "stainless steel flanges." For example, the connection of a ventilation pipe can be called "stainless steel flange parts," but this connection is only a part of the equipment. For instance, the connection between the stainless steel flange and the water pump should not be called "stainless steel flange parts." However, smaller valves can be called "stainless steel flange parts."
Flange gaskets are rings made of materials with plastic deformation and certain strength. They are mostly cut from non-metallic plates or manufactured by professional manufacturers according to specified sizes. Materials include asbestos rubber plates, asbestos plates, polyethylene plates, and more. Metal composite gaskets are made of thin metal plates (such as white iron sheets or stainless steel sheets) wrapped with non-metallic materials like asbestos. There are also spiral wound gaskets made of thin steel strips and asbestos tape.
Ordinary rubber gaskets are suitable for temperatures below 120°C. Asbestos rubber gaskets are suitable for steam temperatures below 450°C, oil temperatures below 350°C, and pressures below 5 MPa. For general corrosive media, the most commonly used is an acid-resistant cotton plate. Copper, aluminum, No. 10 steel, and lens-type stainless steel or other shaped metal gaskets should be used in high-pressure equipment and pipelines.
The contact width between the high-pressure gasket and the sealing surface is very narrow (line contact), and both the sealing surface and the gasket have a high processing finish. The thickness of the stainless steel flange and the diameter and number of connecting bolts vary under different pressures.
